Adolescent Stress and Anxiety: Insights and Interventions from a Global Nursing Perspective
Malwanchal University, Indore, M.P
Abstract
Adolescent stress and anxiety are a growing global public health concern, affecting roughly one in seven adolescents, with anxiety disorder incidence rising 52% among 10–24 year-olds between 1990 and 2021 — a trend that accelerated after the COVID-19 pandemic.
This review examines the impact of chronic stress and anxiety on adolescents' psychological well-being, social functioning, academic performance, and long-term physical health, and critically evaluates evidence-based nursing interventions.
Routine mental health screening, cognitive-behavioral strategies, mindfulness-based approaches, school-based programs, and family-centered care.
Nurses are uniquely positioned to address this challenge through early identification, evidence-based intervention, family engagement, and policy advocacy. The review calls for stronger nursing education, specialized training, and integrated school mental health services.
